Biogas Innovation Congress this time in digital format

Once a year Osnabrück, Germany becomes the meeting place of leading developers and researchers for the biogas industry with plant operators and investors. However, this year the 13th congress had to be held digitally, due to Covid-19. From November 24th to 25th, the main emphasis was on the economic prospects of plant operators. These have deteriorated increasingly in the past, so the 2020 congress focused on, both, theoretical and practical innovations for optimizing existing plants in the current legal framework.

Obviously, the substrate mix in the plant plays an important role. This is because more manure and less corn mean higher yields, provided that the side effects - e. g. formation of floating layers - are efficiently prevented. BIOPRACT has developed a range of enzymatic solutions to optimize biogas plants and to prevent problems in the fermentation process. During the congress Angelika Hanreich, D.Sc. (R&D Manager of BIOPRACT) presented the most recent development within the scope of the session on "Fermentation process and technology". The topic of her presentation was "Development of an innovative additive to avoid floating layers when using straw in biogas plants". She explained the mode of action of supplemental enzymes in the biogas process and the benefits for the plant operation. In this context she also presented a spotlight on the lab work which led to the development of BIOPRACT’s new enzyme product UltraSweep®, whose innovative combination of different active ingredients has already been applied for patent.
